This topic would be easier to understand if we defined what an aggregate cut off mark or score is. We can certainly boast of a quantum who do not know what an aggregate score is or why it is calculated, as much as we realize some of you do.

WHAT IS AN AGGREGATE SCORE?

In our tertiary institution context, an aggregate cut off mark is the overall score a candidate has after combining JAMB and Post UTME scores and then diving it with the necessary figures as shown below when reading this post. Some colleges of education need you to combine not just your JAMB and post-UTME scores, but also your O’Level grades.

Understanding how AKSCOE calculates their aggregate score is critical since it determines whether or not you are qualified for admission to AKSCOE Before you are able to study your selected course offered at AKSCOE, your aggregate score must meet the departmental cut off point for the course you wish to study.

HOW TO CALCULATE AKSCOE AGGREGATE CUT OFF MARK

Calculating AKSCOE aggregate score would only come into play after your post UTME result has been seen. However this step is an easy one if you follow the illustration below.

This College of education uses a Composite Grading System that takes into consideration the following:

  • Your O’Level result (WAEC or NECO)
  • Post-UTME Result
  • UTME/Transcript results of  candidate.

AKSCOE   grading system is based on ratio 30:20:50 for Post-UTME, O’Level result and UTME score respectively. Now lets go into details as regards the 3 grading systems (Post-UTME, O’Level result and UTME).

O’Level Points

This is based on ONLY five core subjects: English, Mathematics and any 3 other relevant subjects as it relates to your registered course A1, B2, B3, C4, C5 and C6 grade are rated as 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1 point respectively, all other grades are rated as 0 point. Thus, the maximum obtainable Total O’Level points is thus 30 points.

O’Level composite percentage = Total O’Level Points multiplied by 2/3.

UTME composite percentage = Total UTME Score divided by 8

Post-UTME composite percentage = Post-UTME score multiplied by 0.3

COMPOSITE = Sum of all three composite percentages

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO CALCULATE AKSCOE   AGGREGATE SCORE?

It’s critical to understand how to calculate AKSCOE’s aggregate score because it determines whether or not you’ll be admitted. This is because your total score will be compared to the departmental cutoff mark for the course you want to pursue.

If you do not meet your department’s cut-off mark, you will not be considered for admission to AKSCOE and will be pushed to departments with lower cut-off marks, so we normally advise students to change courses.

To get admitted to the course of your choosing, you must meet or exceed the departmental cut-off point. However, if you are applying for a competitive programme, it is recommended that you exceed the departmental cut-off level.

Make it your goal to do exceedingly well such that your overall score is considerably over the course’s cut-off line.
