The National University Commission (NUC) has approved the request from Enugu State University (ESUT) for the establishment of an Open and Distance Learning Centre. In a letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, the Commission’s secretary confirmed the approval and provided the following details:
I am delighted to inform you that the Commission has granted approval for the establishment of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology Open and Distance Learning Centre in Enugu State. This approval comes after the Panel’s visit to the proposed Centre, which took place from 17th to 20th May 2023, and the subsequent validation of its status.
The Centre is now authorized to commence academic activities, beginning with the B.Sc. Economics program. The mode of delivery for this program will be the ICT Enabled Supported Blended Learning model of Open and Distance Learning (ODL).
It is imperative that the University ensures full compliance with the requirements set for running ODL programs in Nigerian Universities. Furthermore, the Commission expects the University to impress upon the Centre the importance of implementing the recommendations outlined in the attached Technical Report, which were provided by the visiting Panel.
In the future, the addition of new programs will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis, requiring pre-assessment and approval from the Commission. The University should bear in mind that periodic monitoring of the Centre will be conducted to ensure adherence to accepted best practices.
Please accept the highest regards of the executive secretary, and rest assured of our continued support.
